Eight Belles (minutes before her Kentucky Derby race)

Eight Belles came in second in the 2008 Kentucky Derby but broke down immediately following the race.

The Eight Belles Memorial Fund has been created based on donation requests money donated in Eight Belles honor be divided between two of Thoroughbred Charities of America grant sectors:

• Thoroughbred retraining for secondary careers
• Research Grants to study catastrophic breakdowns, to prevent more horses from suffering Eight Belles' fate
